AKC CGC Test

Many dog owners choose Canine Good Citizen Program as the first step in training their dogs. The Canine Good Citizen Program lays the foundation for other AKC activities such as obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events. As you work with your dog to teach the CGC skills, you’ll discover the many benefits and joys of training your dog. Training will enhance the bond between you and your dog. Dogs who have a solid obedience education are a joy to live with-they respond well to household routines, have good manners in the presence of people and other dogs, and they fully enjoy the company of the owner who took the time to provide training, intellectual stimulation, and a high quality life. We sincerely hope that CGC will be only a beginning for you and your dog and that after passing the CGC test, you’ll continue training your dog.

CGC TEST ITEMS

Your dog will be tested on::

• Accepting a Friendly Stranger
• Sitting Politely for Petting
• Apperance & Grooming
• Out For a Walk (walking on a loosing lead)
• Walking Through a Crowd
• Sit & Down On Command & Staying In Place
• Coming When Called
• Reaction to Another Dog
• Reaction to a Distraction
• Supervised Seperation

• Some Insurance Company’s require an AKC CGC Certificate to insure your home
• If you fail only one test out of 10, you can repeat that test to pass after everyone else is finished
• Most dogs can pass the testing after finishing our 5 week Beginner Obedience Course
• Treats and toys are not permitted during testing
• Bring a 20 foot long line and your dogs brush or comb for during testing
